Smart-Grid in the Eilat Region
The Eilat-Eilot Renewable Energy Initiative’s latest efforts have included working meetings on integrating deployed renewable energy producers and Smart-Grid technology from scratch to devise a way to incorporate more renewable energy sources into the electric grid than is currently possible with conventional technologies.
At present, a Grid can only take 5-20% of its energy from renewable energy because of its inability to tolerate fluctuations – We believe Israel can be the first to solve the interoperability between the two most critical parts of the new Energy Economy. Moreover, Eilat-Eilot is small enough and isolated enough to deploy smart grid technologies and test them in a real city and region setting, but without committing resources that a large population center such as Tel Aviv or Haifa would require.
The Initiative is advocating for the creation a consortium of companies to achieve this. This consortium will include the Israel Electric Corporation and private enterprises that provide the various aspects needed to covering all of the prerequisites for a true smart-grid that can handle a significantly higher participation of renewable energy production sources.
Start Smart Grid in one region as the first step towards national implementation and the Eilat-Eilot region is an ideal beta site for national implementation, and will be a model for other regions to emulate.
