PowerComis a participant in the Eilat-Eilot Renewable Energy Technologies Validation Center. PowerCom offers advanced meter management (AMM), Automatic MeterReading (AMR) and Advanced Meter Infrastructure (AMI) systems based on PLC (Power Line Communication) technology. Over the last two years, PowerCom has been successful in implementing an advanced, reliable and secured PLC communication system which enabled the company to present a full system solution using smart meters, Concentrators and web based software. The breakthrough was achieved by developing a dynamic PLC™ modem which allows data transmission at the low voltage grid lines. The technology allows real time readings from any smart meters at a distance of up to 2Km of electricity wires, at any world location in 2-4 seconds. The system speed has been tested in different enlivenments and times, and the results are excellent. PLC technology in known for over forty (40) years, however, due to technology barriers, it has been impossible to successfully implement the technology on a wide scale. Large companies have invested millions of dollars and enormous effort to fulfill the technology without major success. The benefits of using the existing infrastructure are well known. It requires only installation of smart meters over the low voltage electricity grid. It is simple, easy to deploy and low cost to maintain. Powercom meters are installed over eighteen (18) months in more than ten (10) countries.
The installations are located in different urban areas as tall buildings, rural villages, commercial and Industrial areas. PowerCom smart meters include internal relay, which enables the utility company or service provider to shut off the electricity remotely. As a result of the excellent communication transfer, PowerCom implemented many applications, for e.g. a “cardless pre-payment” solutio . Money paid by the customer is loaded into the meter from the remote utility offices through a secured network. The tariff tables are included in the meter which calculates the remainder of the money.
When the money in the meter reaches a set amount, the customer receives a request (by mail or text message) to reload his meter. Any attempt to reload money illegally, will be easily detected. All PowerCom meters are multi tariff and offer TOU (Time of Use) data. The system automatically identifies meter or grid tampering. The software runs several programs and continuously monitors and calculates energy losses, offering transparency of the electric grid. In case of unpaid bills, the meters limit the power to the customer. After a reprogrammable time (e.g.: one week), if payment is not received, the meter automatically turns the power off. The meters have the ability to limit the maximum power consumption enabled when the utility company has shortage of electricity. There is no need to shut down power to a complete region, but it is possible to disconnect only customers who consume more than the approved power limit. A customer interface unit (CIU) offers every customer with easy to use interface to view their consumption profiles. The end users are able to read and control every appliance in the house. Customer education plan enables power savings with state of the art technology. The system pricing is very competitive with regards to industry price levels/industry standards.
