The AORA Solar Energy Installation

The AORA Solar Energy Installation

AORA

AORA is a participant in the Eilat-Eilot Renewable Energy Technologies Validation Center. It is an Israeli solar start-up company in the solar thermal power sector.  It has recently completed installing Israel’s 1st solar thermal power station, outside the city of Eilat. The small, modular power station offers a new way of bringing solar thermal technology close to the customer, thereby enabling solar thermal power to be supplied at the community level. Having completed its first installation, the company is preparing to expand onto the world markets.

Competative Advantage

  • Modular: Never before has solar thermal technology been available in such small, modular units, 100kw in size, enabling an off-grid
    Community Solar application.
  • Hybrid: Our system combines a hybrid solar-fuel engine offering uninterrupted power 24hr/ day, be it from sun or fossil fuel.
  • Power & Heat: Each unit provides an extremely efficient power block, offering both power (100kWe) as well as heat.
  • Desert Application: Unlike other traditional solar thermal technologies, that use steam turbines, the AORA system does not require
    water for its operation.

Key Facts

  • Base unit nominal rating: 100kW electric power, and 170kW thermal power (heat)
  • Operating temperature: 1,000°C
  • Land requirements: ~1,800m2 per unit (site specific)
  • Tower height: 30 m
  • Operating Modes
  • Solar Only: Use only solar input, generate power whenever irradiation is available
  • Hybrid: Use fuel to augment solar input when it is not sufficient, at night or during cloud coverage
  • Fuel for hybrid operation
  • Renewable: biogas, biodiesel, landfill gas
  • Fossil: natural gas, diesel
